Hiroshi Watanabe has
been involved in the house and techno music worlds since his graduation
from the Berklee College of Music, Boston, U.S.A. where he received a
major in Music Composition. Following his move to New York City he started
DJing in some of the most celebrated venues in town with a residency at
the legendary "Save The Robots" as well as performances at Tunnel,
Twilo and Speed.
Watanabe’s Kimara Lovelace “Circles” production earned
him a No. 1 slot on the US Billboard club play chart. His Evelyn Champagne
King “One More Time” charted No. 3 on the same chart while
You’ve Got To Be There” / “Night System” was ranked
No. 5 on the maxi singles charts in 1998. He released numerous tracks
as Hiroshi Watanabe and Nite System on New York labels such as Deeper
Rekords, Nitegrooves and BPM King Street Sounds. During the same period,
he further released an E.P. and album called "Sketch From A Moment"
on Frogman Records under the alias Quadra and his Hiroshi Watanabe “Beatmania-Beat
Indication” project on the Japanese label Konami.
Watanabe also left his mark commercially and artistically in the video
games world with contributions to "Beat Mania" for Konami (which
can be found in arcades and Sony PlayStation). In March 1999 he resettled
in Japan where he has since produced multiple works by Japanese artists.
His cache is also huge as a remixer with innumerable credits under his
belt. In 2001 under his Kaito alias, he released "Beautiful Day",
"Everlasting", "Awakening" and the albums "Special
Life", "Special Love" and "Soul of Heart" on
the German Kompakt Records. Around the same time he started a new deep,
slow house project called "Tread" with the assistance of graphic
designer Takehiko Kitahara and has released four full-length albums under
this moniker. In 2003 he released the "Root Of World" EP as
32 Project on the highly acclaimed label, Ibadan Records. He continues
to give live performances as Tread and Kaito in tangent with his DJing
as Hiroshi Watanabe throughout Japan.
In 2002, he gave a series of critically acclaimed performances at the
Sonar Music Festival in Barcelona, Vision in Switzerland and Popkomm in
Cologne, Germany. The talented Mr. Watanabe has further made music for
films, TV jingles and scores for theatre plays, fashion shows and more.
His talent in the fine arts was solidified in 2002 with his foray into
the world of photography. Since then, Watanabe has held several Photo
Exhibitions at galleries and clubs in Tokyo. Colorve released his first
Photo Album accompanied by the “Tiny Balance” DVD with an
original soundtrack in Japan in September 2004.
